DIS Review: Got Plate Lunch Food Truck – Benicia, CA

I’ve had my share of “authentic Hawaiian” food restaurants over the past few years but only a few have been in the category of bringing me back to Hawaii with every bite. That’s where Got Plate Lunch food truck comes in. Got Plate Lunch is the most “authentic Hawaiian” food I’ve had in California. The flavors are big and bold. Everything that you put in your mouth is seasoned properly. The portions are just right. I don’t have one complaint about them.

When we first got there, we walked up to the ordering window to order a few things before we introduced ourselves to them. We ordered and paid for the Blue Hawaiian Sliders and Shoyu Garlic Chicken Wings. While waiting for our food and waiting for the line to die down, we finally got a chance to introduce ourselves as Dipped In Shoyu to Jamie, Co-Owner of Got Plate Lunch. What a great welcoming we received. We had a chance to talk story with Jamie outside the truck for at least an hour. Jamie and her staff also took the time to bring out a few samples of their food including their loco moco.

On to the food.

We looked up Got Plate Lunch on Yelp and found that the Blue Hawaiian Sliders and Shoyu Garlic Chicken Wings were the best things on the menu and the reviewers at Yelp were completely right. Don’t be weirded out by the blue sauce on top of the sliders, it’s only food coloring for effect. The Shoyu Garlic Chicken Wings was amazing. The mac salad was, in Guy Fieri’ words, “on point.” The loco moco was heavily and properly seasoned. Last but definitely not least was the BBQ Chicken with the shoyu garlic sauce on the side. I can’t even describe into words how that dish made me feel. Can’t wait to visit them again to try the rest of the menu. I forgot to try the Spam Musubi (they use real SPAM). Don’t hate me, I just forgot. Next time.
